The Directors of The
Tlama Clean Water Project |
|
Jan
Brown |
Janice was a founding member of the Tlama Clean Water Project. She has worked with church and community groups and classroom teachers for the past twenty-five years, focusing on issues of human rights and social and economic justice within a global context. She met the people of Tlama in 1989 during an experiential journey to the ‘two-thirds’ world, through the Cuernavaca Centre for Intercultural Dialogue on Development (CCIDD). |
|
Dan Brennan |
As a high school teacher in the Quinte area, Dan Brennan "lucked into a free trip to Mexico" courtesy of the former Hastings-Prince Edward R.C.S.S.B., in exchange for providing a report on the experience provided by the Cuernavaca Centre for Intercultural Dialogue on Development. A trip to Tlama was included in that experience and in the subsequent student tour which he co-led. |
|
Tony Orrick |
Tony has bee involved with social justice work since 1985. Since that time, he has been involved in a number of groups and joined the TCWP board in 2003. He has visited Tlama twice and along with his other contributions to the Project provides computer support. |
|
Lindy Powell |
Lindy has been involved in working for peace and social justice since she was a student at Trent University in the 60s. Several trips to CCIDD while she was teaching at Loyalist College convinced her that real change comes from the grassroots, and that supporting local initiatives such as Atzin is a powerful way to be part of that much-needed change. She has helped plan the annual Fiesta fundraiser since the beginning, and now that she has retired from full-time teaching has joined the board of directors of the Tlama Clean Water project. |
|
Trudie
Robertson |
Trudie joined the group in 2002 when she returned to the Quinte area after living in Vancouver area for 10 years. While in Vancouver, Trudie helped to organize and facilitate a mission to Tijuana, Mexico for 22 students ages 13-18. While in Mexico, the group helped to build a home for a mother and her two children. Trudie and her husband, John, adopted a Mexican baby girl at 8 weeks of age so Mexico is very dear to their hearts. Trudie would like to travel to Tlama with her family one day. |
|
Karen
Scott |
As a new board member, Karen brings many years of working with community group in the Quinte area, with involvement in environmental committees, children and youth advocacy and youth soccer. Her social activism dates back to her youth in Nova Scotia as a member of Red Cross Youth. Five years ago her interest in international development was rekindled while attending the Coady International Institute at St. Francis Xavier University. As a result of this involvement, she is helping her friends from India with projects supporting their NGOs, schools and orphanages. She is delighted to be part of this dynamic board and would welcome a trip to Mexico to see the Tlama Clean Water Project first-hand. |
|
Emily Skinkle
|
As the grand-daughter of a founding member of the group, Emily has been involved with the Project in many facets over the last few years. She was responsible for forming and leading a Set-Up committee for the Fiesta for three years, spoke to elementary school classes and now is honoured to be a board member. Emily hopes to visit Tlama someday soon and one day assist in the delivery of a baby in the Joan Skinkle Birthing Room. |
